Who’s Winning the Streaming Wars

Remember the days when there were only three channels on the television? Those days are long gone, with cable television offers hundreds of channels, and streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, and Hulu providing their subscribers loads of new content every month. Who’s winning these streaming wars, or is cable television somehow going to come out on top?

Cable Television is Struggling

With so much great content offered by streaming services at a much lower price, it’s practically impossible for cable to compete. It’s not going down without a fight though. Many networks are coming out with their own streaming services, like Disney+ and HBO Max, but the high cost coupled with so many unnecessary channels is making cable television itself unappealing for many.

Netflix is Still Reigning

It’s hard to top Netflix, with over 195 million users and counting and billions of dollars in profits. The streaming giant plans to offer hundreds of new movies and original series this year, even teaming up with Paramount Pictures to release movies on their platform versus in theaters. It seems nearly impossible to bring Netflix down, but there are a few other streaming services giving it a run for its money.

Watch Out for Disney+

Perhaps the biggest contender for the streaming giant Netflix is none other than Disney+. The newbie streaming service has plans to grow to over 260 million subscribers by the year 2024, which could ultimately put it on top of Netflix. Star Wars fans are flocking to view their exclusive content, with 10 new series coming soon, in addition to nearly a dozen new Marvel series and other desirable content.

The Winner is Still Uncertain

While Netflix seems untouchable at the moment, Disney+ and other new streaming services are ready to give them a run for their money. One thing is certain- the variety of content offered between cable television and the multitude of streaming services available means there’s no shortage of things to watch while we’re all quarantined during the pandemic. Everything from nostalgic shows like Gilmore Girls and Dawson’s Creek to newer offerings like The Mandalorian and Cobra Kai are sure to keep us entertained throughout 2021 and beyond.
